Year 6 at Mt Blowhard Public School, Victoria - looked at how light bends through objects. Students said they were actually trying to see if they could make objects invisible. However they were sceptical about it saying none of them thought this would work - but it actually did.

Year 6 at Badgingarra Primary School in WA - examined how they could improve soils. The aim of their project was to see the effect of adding of clay to non wetting soils. They chose this experiment because many of the farms in their area of inland WA have large areas of dry soils.

Class 5, Cambridge Park Public School, NSW - examined how magnificent mould forms. The aim of their project was to see how different temperatures and environments can affect the decomposition rates of food.

Year 6, Ulladulla Public School, NSW - examined how weathering occurs. The class entry, inspired by their Ancient Australia Unit, aimed to discover the effects of different liquids on four different natural objects over a period of one month. As a result they said the information gathered helped them to better understand the concept of weathering.

Year 6, York Public School, South Penrith, NSW - examined what is human fitness? The entry initially explored the fitness of other students within class. This included recording; reaction tests, heart rate, height and weight of students.

Ruyton Girls School, from Kew, Victoria - investigated 'which type of apple produces the most juice?’ The girls said it all started from a question. “Have you ever wanted to make a large quantity of apple juice, but weren't sure which type of apple was the juiciest?”

Year 6, from Mossgiel Park Public School, Endeavour Hills, in Victoria - examined if humans could taste high acid levels in drinks. The class conducted an experiment about acids, prompted by a student’s father who was balancing the acid levels in his fish tank.

Year 5 students at the GATS Science Club, Dundas Public School in NSW - looked at the life work balance. The aim of their project was to see how the balance between work, rest and play affects memory. The students speculated that when you do all three, you learn, you rest, and play you are refreshed to learn again
